Antonietta Collins

Antonietta Toni Collins is a Mexican American journalist. She currently works as a sportscaster for ESPN and is anchor for SportsCenter news and hosting SportsNation. She was hired by ESPN as a news anchor in 2016. Her mother is Maria Antonieta Collins, a TV reporter. Antonietta is native to two languages. From the age of nine years old, her ability to communicate in two languages helped her get an employment in Miami as a production assistant at Univision. In this role she was able to be a part of national show producers like Nuestra Belleza Latina. Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud. Then she was promoted to reporter for The CBS St. Petersburg affiliate in the following year. In 2009, she moved away from Texas to Rio Grande Valley where she began her news reporting for KNVO TV 48 Univision. Reporting on stories about trafficking in drugs and immigration on both sides of the border, she was an anchor for the 5 p.m. Spanish newscast a anchor and reporter for news at 9 p.m. newscast in English and also a reporter again for news at 10:30 p.m. Spanish newscast. Also, she was often asked to serve as an anchor for sports and weather. Deportes 23 in Dallas, Univision's Dallas-affiliate station. There she had more duties. She reported on the Major League Baseball ALDS ALCS World Series, the Dallas Cowboys as well as the NBA Postseason and the Finals FC Dallas FC Dallas Stars. She also hosted the local Univision 23 sports show Accion Deportiva Extra. Then, she became the sports host for the morning program of Despierta America Deportes. She also played the role as Primer Impacto on UniMas Network as well as Contacto Deportivo for its magazine show. Antonietta's parents come from Veracruz Mexico. Eventually, they settled in Mexico City and she was born there on November 22 the 22nd of November, 1985. She's more mature than her younger sister. The family moved to Miami in 1992 after leaving Mexico. She divorced her parents within a short time and in 1995, she was married an naval designer by the name of Fabio Fajardo. Fabio Fajardo passed away in 2006 from kidney cancer. She stayed at Canton Ohio with her older sister during the summer and was offered the opportunity of a job. Still a senior in high school and yet having a clear vision of what she wanted to do with her life Antonietta was able to visit the University of Mount Union to examine if it was a good fit for her preferences. At the end of the day she fell in love with the campus. They also offered her a the opportunity to study a major. When she completed her high school education she enrolled in the University to pursue media studies. Mark Bergmann, her professor who also managed the WRMU's 91.1FM station where she worked for many years, became an acquaintance. Her professor, Mark Bergmann, inspired her by his passion for journalism. He also deeply impacted her.
